Report: Multiple Grade 1 winner Winchester dies at 17

Winchester, winner of multiple Grade 1 races in the U.S., has died at age 17.

The news was reported Monday by the Paulick Report, citing Korea Racing Authority records.

Winchester compiled a record of 30: 6-6-3 and earnings of $1.6 million. His Grade 1 races in the U.S. came in the Secretariat Stakes at Arlington in 2008, the Manhattan Handicap at Belmont Park in 2010, the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic at Belmont in 2010 and 2011, and the Sword Dancer at Saratoga in 2011.

His retirement was announced in 2011, according to the Paulick Report, but he went on to race one season in Australia after being sold to an Australian partnership. Winchester had stood at stud in Korea since 2014, according to the report.
