Multiple Grade 1 winner She's a Julie retired at age 5
Two-time Grade 1 winner She’s a Julie has been retired, according to a press release from Bradley Thoroughbreds.
“Simply put, ‘Julie’ is incredible,” Badley Thoroughbreds founder Peter Bradley said in the release. “There are not enough words to express the admiration and gratitude I have for this mare who fiercely laid it down on the track every time we asked her to.”
A 5-year-old daughter of Elusive Quality out of Kydd Gloves, by Dubai Millennium, She’s a Julie finished sixth in her last race, the La Troienne (G1) at Churchill Downs on Sept. 4.
Her last win came in June, in the Ogden Phipps (G1) at Belmont Park. The victory gave the mare, trained by Steve Asmussen, her second Grade 1 win and fifth overall graded stakes victory.
Her career record was 21: 7-2-4 with earnings of $1.2 million.
“Her talent was obvious with Grade 1 wins on top of her other graded stakes wins and G1 placings,” Asmussen said in the statement. “She was the real deal on the racetrack, but you have got to see her in person understand what a beautiful mare she is. Named after my wife, she is so very special to me and my family. It is really hard to let this one go.”
She’s a Julie will be offered for sale as a broodmare prospect at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale.
