Multiple Grade 1 winner Beach Patrol retired, to stand overseas
Beach Patrol, a three-time Grade 1 winner, has retired and will stand at stud in Japan after purchased from from Al Shahania Stud by LEX, Inc. Dr. Naoya Yoshida of Winchester Farm in Lexington, Ky., negotiated the purchase.
Chad Brown trained Beach Patrol throughout a career in which he won five of 19 starts and earned more than $2.5 million.
“He is a very well-balanced, correct good-looking horse,” said Dean Lavy, representative for Al Shahania Stud. “We are delighted he will be going to Japan with LEX, Inc. for the next successful part of his career. We are pleased to be associated with the next phase of his career and we are sure he will be a success.”
At age 3, Beach Patrol emerged when winning the Secretariat Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park. He returned to Arlington Park at age 4 to also take the Arlington Million (G1), then followed that up with a score in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic (G1). The son of Lemon Drop Kid ran second to Talismanic in the 2017 Breeders’ Cup Turf at Del Mar.
Beach Patrol returned to run twice this season, last seen finishing off the board in the Manhattan Stakes (G1) on Belmont Stakes day.
A $250,000 weanling purchase, Beach Patrol was also campaigned by James Covello, Sheep Pond Partners and Head of Plains Partners. Along with five victories, he was a runner-up in four Grade 1 races.
