Mr. Money retired, will stand at Journeyman Stallions in Florida
Mr. Money, winner of five graded stakes, has been retired and will stand at Journeyman Stallions in Ocala, Fla.
The 4-year-old son of Goldencents most recently raced in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, finishing 11th for trainer Bret Calhoun. Before that, he scored in the Grade 3 Ack Ack Stakes at Churchill Downs in September.
As a 3-year-old, he won four consecutive graded stakes: the Pat Day Mile (G3), the Matt Winn Stakes (G3), the Indiana Derby (G3) and the West Virginia Derby (G3), followed by a second-place finish in the Pennsylvania Derby (G1).
As a 2-year-old, he graduated in September and then placed fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.
Owned by Allied Racing Stable and Spendthrift Farm, his record is 6-3-0 in 18 career starts, with $1,360,430 in earnings.
Journeyman Stallions co-owner Crystal Fernung told HRN that Mr. Money arrived at Journeyman on Monday and that the company had sold two contracts Thursday morning. The stud fee for Mr. Money is $5,000.
“He came in looking great,” she said. “He’s got good flesh on him, his coat looks great. Bret Calhoun did a wonderful job on him.”
Fernung said an important factor in accepting Mr. Money was the involvement of Allied Racing owner Chester Thomas.
“We were already getting mares in with him to support the station, which makes all the difference,” she said. “He plans on breeding a dozen or so mares.
“If the owners are supporting him, it just makes breeders more comfortable. He’s getting off to a good start.”
