Mr. Misunderstood takes on Lookin At Lee in the Remington Green

The $100,000 Remington Green Stakes on the turf this Sunday at Remington Park has drawn a multiple graded stakes winner and a millionaire horse that ran second in the Kentucky Derby in 2017.
Mr. Misunderstood won the Grade 2 Wise Dan Stakes and the Grade 3 River City Handicap, both at Churchill Downs, in 2018. In 2017, the late-running gelding also scored the Grade 3 Commonwealth Turf at Churchill. He has been installed as the 5-2 favorite for this year’s version of the Remington Green.
Mr. Misunderstood, a 5-year-old gelded son of Archarcharch, is owned by Flurry Racing Stables of Hot Springs, Ark., and trained by the country’s No. 5 conditioner, Brad Cox.
Mr. Misunderstood ran poorly in his last visit to the track, finishing 10th, losing by 16 lengths, in the Sept. 5 Old Friends Stakes at Kentucky Downs.
Lookin at Lee, who ran second to Always Dreaming in the “Run for the Roses” in 2017, and has earned $1,333,195 in his career, is a 20-1 outsider in the morning line, but has the back class and late kick to pull off the upset with his best race. The Green will be the first attempt over turf for the 5-year-old horse. Lookin at Lee threw in a clunker last time out in the Governor’s Cup at Remington Park, never getting it in gear, running fifth while beaten 6-1/2 lengths. It was the first race in the home state of his owners, L and N Racing of Tulsa.
The two horses on the inside rail for Sunday’s Green are the second and third favorites in the morning line.
The nation’s second-leading trainer, Steve Asmussen, sends out Keep Quiet, 4-1 odds, from the rail after the horse was competitive on the grass at Saratoga in upstate New York against optional claiming, $62,500 level horses, getting second last time out. Popularity, a local horse owned by Bryan Hawk of Shawnee, Okla., sits at 9-2 odds after being a near-winner in the Governor’s Cup last time out, leading every step but the last couple. He ran second by a half-length to Mocito Rojo, who has won four consecutive stakes events.
Turbo Street, winner of the previous two Remington Greens, is back to attempt a third consecutive. Trained by Asmussen, Turbo Street will be ridden by the leading Remington Park jockey, Richard Eramia, at morning-line odds of 12-1.
