Mott accepts penalty for post-euthanasia flunixin positive

Trainer Bill Mott has agreed to an admission of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority's anti-doping and medication control program in connection with a flunixin finding in a post-race blood test on Authorize, a horse he trained. The finding occurred after the 5-year-old son of Curlin was euthanized on the track.

According to the resolution published Monday on the Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit website, Mott agreed to an admission of violation of a controlled medication rule and an acceptance of consequences under the anti-doping and medication control. Flunixin, a pain reliever often referred to under its trade name Banamine, is a class C controlled substance under HIWU anti-doping and medication controle rules. According to the published resolution, flunixin was found in a post-race blood sample taken on Authorize after an April 26 race at Aqueduct. Authorize was injured near the furlong mark of that 1 1/16-mile turf allowance and euthanized on track.

Mott has been fined $500 and assigned 1.5 penalty points under the ADMC program.
