Motion Seeks Another Bewitch Score With Kitten's Point
Trainer Graham Motion will seek his third consecutive victory in the $150,000 Bewitch (G3) when he sends out Augustin Stable’s Kitten’s Point in the 54th running of the 1½-mile stakes on the Keeneland turf course on Friday, closing day of the 15-day Spring Meet. A full field of 14 horses with two also-eligibles were entered Tuesday for the Bewitch.
The Bewitch will go as the ninth race on Friday’s 10-race program with a 5:13 p.m. ET post time. First post Friday is 1:05 p.m.
Kitten’s Point, a 5-year-old homebred daughter of Kitten’s Joy, won the 1½-mile Astra at Santa Anita in January, was sixth in The Very One (G3) at Gulfstream in February and is coming off a third in Gulfstream’s Orchid (G3) in March. She will bid to join Motion’s other Bewitch winners Strathnaver (GB) in 2013 and Inimitable Romanee last year. Augustin also won the Bewitch in 2009 with Winter View.
Edgar Prado will ride Kitten’s Point, who will break from post nine. She is the 120-pound co-highweight with Jake Ballis and Rashard Lewis’ White Rose, winner of Keeneland’s 1½-mile Rood & Riddle Dowager last October.
White Rose, trained by Bill Mott, is a 5-year-old Tapit mare. She was fifth in her 2015 debut, the Feb. 7 Suwanee River (G3) at Gulfstream, and is coming off a fourth in the Orchid. She will be ridden in the Bewitch by Shaun Bridgmohan.
Second in the Rood & Riddle Dowager is another Bewitch entrant, Joyce B. Young’s Caroline Thomas.
Trainer Christophe Clement has three horses in the Bewitch: Robert S. Evans’ Anipa (GB), China Horse Club’s Tabreed (GB) and Ramona S. Bass’ Courtesan. Tabreed was third in The Very One and second in the Orchid.
The field for the Bewitch, from the inside out, is as follows: Lots o’ Lex (Rosemary Homeister Jr., 118 pounds), Anipa (GB) (Julien Leparoux, 118), Antonia Autumn (Rafael Hernandez, 118), Cay Dancer (GB) (Joel Rosario, 118), Street of Gold (Robby Albarado, 118), Caroline Thomas (Rajiv Maragh, 118), Annabird (James Graham, 118), Maria Maria (Florent Geroux, 118), Kitten’s Point (Edgar Prado, 120), Tabreed (GB) (John Velazquez, 118), White Rose (Shaun Bridgmohan, 120), Courtesan (Joe Bravo 118), Tapnfire (Corey Lanerie, 118), Hellenistic (Javier Castellano, 118).
