Moonlight d'Oro is off the 2021 Kentucky Oaks trail because of a bone chip.
RacingDudes.com reported that co-owner MyRacehorse.com said the injury will require surgery.
The news comes after the daughter of Medaglia d'Oro rallied to win Saturday's Grade 2 Las Virgenes at Santa Anita as the 6-5 second choice, earnings 10 points on the Kentucky Oaks leaderboard.
Moonlight d'Oro broke her maiden on third try for trainer Richard Mandella at Los Alamitos in December, then came back in the Las Virgenes.
Her other owner is Spendthrift Farm, which bought the filly for $620,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in 2019. Mandella has never won the Kentucky Oaks.
