Moomey Wins Belmont Handicapping Challenge

Eric Moomey, a 41-year-old lieutenant colonel in the United States Air Force, won top prize of $42,500 at the RTN Racetrack Television Network Belmont Park Challenge on Sunday, beating 276 other entrants and earning a berth in the Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship held in January, 2015 in Las Vegas.

Moomey, who is stationed at McGuire Air Force Base in Burlington County, N.J., finished the two-day tournament with a total of $1,226 in mythical wagers. Finishing second was Nicole Cox of Oceanside, N.Y,with $1,168, and gaining third was Noro Healy of Elizabeth, N.J. with $1,114. All three will represent Belmont Park at the National Handicapping Challenge, which offers total of $1.8 million in prizes.

Each player had to make 10 selections a day on each day of the two-day tournament, nine $20 plays and a single $40 play.
