Oaklawn-based Cowboy Diplomacy, a 3-year-old full brother to newly named Champion Three-Year-Old Filly Monomoy Girl, remains on track to make his career debut next month, trainer Brad Cox said Saturday morning.

Cowboy Diplomacy has had five published works this season at Oaklawn Park (a Dec. 17 breeze wasn’t timed because of heavy fog) in advance of his first start, including a 5-furlong bullet move from the gate last Sunday in 59.60 second.

“He’s doing good,” Cox said. “I think he’s ready to go, for sure. We’ll see.”

Cox also trains Monomoy Girl, who was a near-unanimous choice for an Eclipse Award from her 2018 season after crossing the finish line first in all seven starts.

Monomoy Girl was sent to Florida for a freshening following a victory in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff on Nov. 3 at Churchill Downs. The trainer said she is scheduled to rejoin his barn at Fair Grounds barn early next week.

Cox said the $700,000 Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) April 14 at Oaklawn and $500,000 La Troienne Stakes (G1) May 3 at Churchill Downs are considerations for Monomoy Girl’s 4-year-old debut.

“We’re going to let her tells us,” Cox said.
