Monmouth play of day: Beat the favorites in baby race

Judging by the Horse Racing Nation First-Time Starter Power Report ratings, the fourth race Friday at Monmouth Park is a good one, with all six debut runners earnings at least three stars on the five-star scale, including a pair of five-star 2-year-olds.

The good news for bettors is that morning-line favorite Bacio is marooned in post 7, and the outside posts are not great in these five-furlong races, especially for 2-year-olds. Ditto that for Silvadar, the second choice with "only" four stars and also relatively outside.

Cairo Surprise is the pick given the hope of him maybe being a slightly better price than Landing Force based on the morning line. Really, though, we will not split the two when it comes to our TwinSpires Betshare. Knowing that we'll beat two well-bet horses if we survive with one of them is enough for me to use both.
