Monmouth Park: Marquez, Hill Sidelined
Jockeys C. H. Marquez Jr. and Channing Hill will miss time in the saddle due to injuries they suffered during the running of the third race on Monday at Monmouth Park.
Marquez, fourth in the Monmouth Park standings, broke his collarbone when unseated from his mount Break the Glass. Hill, who was behind Break the Glass, was also unseated.
“I have to go back on the 21st (September) to make sure everything is on the right track,” Marquez said while visiting the racetrack on Friday morning. “Racing’s a tough game. You just have to roll with the punches.”
A 43-year-old native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Marquez has booted home 39 winners this meet.
“He found out this morning he does not need surgery, which is really good news,” said Danny Nied, agent for Channing Hill. “He has a cast on it now and it’s just a healing process from here. He’ll miss about four to six weeks.”
Hill, an Eclipse Award winning 24-year-old from Grand Island, Neb., is 10th in the jockey colony with 18 winners.
Monmouth Park’s 2011 racing season runs through Sunday, Nov. 6.
