Monmouth Oaks Draws Large Field

Saturday’s Monmouth Oaks has drawn a full field of 11 fillies for the mile and a sixteenth event, including Canadian Mistress from the Larry Jones barn.  Jones, as trainer, captured the 2008 Oaks with Maren’s Meadow and returned in 2009 to take the event with Just Jenda.  Last year it was another Jones, Cindy (wife of the trainer), who conditioned the winner No Such Word, as her husband enjoyed a hiatus from the training ranks.

 

First run in 1871, the Monmouth Oaks is the oldest Oaks in the nation.  With a $150,000 purse on the line, the Monmouth Oaks will be run as the 10th race on a 12-race program.  The full field, from the rail out is, with rider assignments is:
