Monday works: White Abarrio, Obliteration lead 12

White Abarrio, winner of the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup this year, worked Monday for the fourth time since finishing fourth to Raging Torrent in the Met Mile (G1) last month at Saratoga. The Saffie Joseph Jr. trainee went four furlongs in 48.56 seconds on the Saratoga dirt track, ninth fastest of 44 to cover the trip. Irad Ortiz Jr. was in the saddle. White Abarrio is training toward a return in the Whitney (G1) at Saratoga on Aug. 2.

Obliteration, the blowout winner of the Sanford (G3) at Saratoga in his most recent start, worked a bullet Monday morning over the dirt training track at the Spa. The promising 2-year-old son of Violence went five furlongs in 1:01.41, fastest of five at the distance. Trained by Steve Asmussen, Obliteration was ignored at 10-1 odds on debut June 12 at Churchill Downs but won by 7 1/2 lengths. Bet to odds-on in the Sanford after that exciting debut, he ran to the money, crossing the wire 10 1/2 lengths clear of runner-up Blinging It Back.
