Monday works: Magnitude, Iscreamuscream lead 12 on tab
Magnitude, the impressive Grade 2 Risen Star winner who most recently finished second behind Baeza in the Grade 1 Pennsylvania Derby, breezed five furlongs in 1:00.4 at Churchill Downs on Monday. Though he missed the Triple Crown season after coming out of the Risen Star with an injury, he has not missed the board in three starts since returning this summer for trainer Steve Asmussen. That includes a comeback victory in the Iowa Derby, a third-place run behind Sovereignty in the Grade 1 Travers, and then the runner-up finish at Parx.
Grade 1 winner Iscreamuscream, on the comeback trail after over a year off, worked Monday morning for trainer Phil D'Amato. She returned to the work tab Oct. 27 with a three-furlong drill at Del Mar, then stretched out to go four furlongs Monday at Santa Anita in 51.0 seconds. She started her career with a four-win streak, culminating in a score in the 2024 Del Mar Oaks (G1). However, the 4-year-old filly has not raced since a fourth-place finish behind Hang the Moon in the Rodeo Drive (G2) on Oct. 5, 2024.
