Monday works: Grade 1 winners Brant, Salamis lead the tab

Grade 1 winner Brant worked three furlongs on the dirt at Santa Anita on Monday morning for trainer Bob Baffert. His time of 35.4 seconds was the third fastest of nine over the course and distance. It was his third drill since finishing fifth behind stablemate Potente in the Grade 2 San Felipe on March 7.

Salamis, an up-and-coming turf runner for Chad Brown, was the other Grade 1 winner on the Monday tab. Unraced since breaking through at the top level in the Hollywood Derby (G1) on November 29, the Juddmonte homebred worked four furlongs on the dirt training track at Saratoga in 48.98 seconds, third fastest of 13 at the distance. It was his first work at Saratoga after three straight weeks on the Payson Park worktab.
