Monday works: 9 stars include Prince of Monaco, Stronghold

Two leading 3-year-olds were among the graded-stakes winners who worked Monday morning.

Prince of Monaco, who won at the top level as a juvenile, most recently finished second in the Grade 1 Woody Stephens on the Belmont Stakes undercard. The Bob Baffert trainee worked six furlongs in 1:10.6 at Del Mar. He continues his preparation for an expected start in the H. Allen Jerkens Memorial (G1) at Saratoga on Aug. 24.

Santa Anita Derby (G1) winner Stronghold also worked at Del Mar on Monday, going five furlongs in 1:01.0. The next stop for this Phil D'Amato trainee is yet to be determined, but he was last seen in the afternoon when he finished second in the Indiana Derby (G3) on July 6 at Horseshoe Indianapolis.

Prince of Monaco (Speightstown), a Grade 1 winner (2023 Del Mar Futurity), worked six furlongs in 1:10.6 at Del Mar on Monday morning. It was the second fastest of five works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Del Mar. In his last start he placed second in the Woody Stephens (G1) going seven furlongs on the main track at Saratoga on June 8 for trainer Bob Baffert.

Saudi Crown (Always Dreaming), a Grade 1 winner (2023 Pennsylvania Derby), worked four furlongs in 47.6 seconds at Churchill Downs on Sunday morning. It was the third fastest of 64 works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going five furlongs at Churchill Downs. In his last start he placed 12th in the Godolphin Mile (G2) going about one mile on the dirt at Meydan Racecourse on March 30 for trainer Brad Cox.

Stronghold (Ghostzapper), a Grade 1 winner (2024 Santa Anita Derby), worked five furlongs in 1:01.0 at Del Mar on Monday morning. It was the 33rd fastest of 57 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Del Mar. In his last start he placed second in the Indiana Derby (G3) going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Horseshoe Indianapolis on July 6 for trainer Phil D'Amato.

Double Crown (Bourbon Courage), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Kelso Handicap), worked four furlongs in 48.8 seconds at Charles Town on Monday morning. It was the third fastest of seven works at the distance. His previous work was 23 days ago going four furlongs at Charles Town. Heywoods Beach (Speightstown), a two-time Grade 3 winner (2022 Tokyo City Cup, 2022 Cougar II), worked five furlongs in 1:01.6 at Del Mar on Monday morning.
