Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner Mizdirection worked five furlongs on Santa Anita’s firm turf course Sunday in a bullet 1:01.20 for next Saturday’s Grade III Las Cienegas Stakes at about 6 ½ furlongs on turf.

She was ridden by David Flores, who has the riding assignment Saturday in place of Mike Smith, who rides War Academy Saturday in the Arkansas Derby.

“She’s doing great; she’s ready to run,” said trainer Mike Puype, who also plans to start Schiapparelli in the Las Cienegas with Joe Talamo, who has ridden the gray daughter of Ghostzapper in each of her six career starts, winning three. Schiaparelli also worked on turf Sunday, going four furlongs in 49.40.

Mizdirection, a 5-year-old gray Mizzen Mast mare, has won nine of her 14 starts and earned $1,094,621 for her owners, who include radio and TV sports talk icon Jim Rome.

Wishing Well winner Purim's Dancer also is scheduled to run for trainer Tom Proctor. “They’re three good fillies,” Puype said. “It will be a good horse race, that’s for sure.”
