Mizdirection, a talented three-year-old filly co-owned by ESPN sportscaster Jim Rome, went wire-to-wire today under jockey Garrett Gomez to win Friday’s featured $90,285 Sandy Blue Handicap as the even-money favorite.

Taking command shortly after the break, Mizdirection, a daughter of Mizzen Mast trained by Mike Puype, continued on gamely in the stretch to win by 3/4 of a length over 5-2 second choice Bauble Queen. Great Hot was third, with Fifth Commandment fourth in the field of six fillies.

Withdrawn from the original field were Dynamo, Rosehill Dew, Skipton Creek, So Belle and Wallstreeter.

Mizdirection accomplished the mile over the infield Jimmy Durante Turf Course in 1:34.39 and returned $4, $2.40 and $2.20 after scoring her second victory in five starts. First prize was $54,171.

Bauble Queen returned $3.40 and $2.60, while Great Hot paid $3 to show.

With a carryover of $79,933 and “new” money of $590,912 wagered in the Pick Six Friday, the pool totaled $670,845 and there were 21 perfect tickets, each paying $18,837.60.
