Missing the Breeders' Cup, World of Trouble retires to stud

Multiple Grade 1 winner World of Trouble has been retired and will enter stud at Hill 'n' Dale Farms for the 2020 breeding season, it was announced Monday.

A leader in the sprint division on both dirt and turf, the son of Kantharos captured both the Carter (G1) on dirt and the Jaipur (G1) on turf this year and retires with a record of 13: 9-2-1 with earnings of $1,263,300 for owners Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables and Bethlehem Stables.

"He's the fastest horse I ever owned," said co-owner Michael Dubb. "My jaw dropped every time he raced. He was such an easy horse, as he could run on anything. He won Grade 1 races on both dirt and turf in New York this season, something that probably will not happen for me ever again.

"Since we couldn't make the Breeders’ Cup due to a foot bruise, we decided it's best for him to start making babies."

World of Trouble broke his maiden by 14 lengths on the dirt in his debut as a 2-year-old. He competed exclusively in stakes races after breaking his maiden.

Known for his blazing speed and wire-to-wire tactics, World of Trouble won seven of his last eight starts, with his only defeat coming against older horses in the 2018 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint where he ran second by a neck to champion Stormy Liberal. He submitted 100-plus Beyers in his last seven starts, including 118 Beyer Figure, the highest for a 3-year-old that season.

"With his mind, temperament, disposition and desire, I can’t wait to breed to World of Trouble myself," said trainer Jason Servis. "He could run on anything, winning stakes on fast and sloppy dirt and firm and yielding turf. It didn't matter; he would throw down those fast fractions that would lead him to victory regardless of the surface, track, or competition."

The 4-year-old son of Kantharos will now stand alongside his sire at Hill 'n' Dale Farm.

"World of Trouble was uniquely talented as a Grade 1 winner on both dirt and turf," said Hill 'n' Dale Farm President John Sikura. "As the most successful son of the rapidly rising Kantharos, we know breeders will love the horse. World of Trouble was a world-class racehorse with brilliant effortless speed."

He will stand for a fee of $15,000 stands and nurses.
