Misremembered Sharp at Santa Anita
Misremembered returned from a
year off Sunday to win the $75,000 Santana Mile on the first
anniversary of his victory in the Santa Anita Handicap, and the day
after trainer Bob Baffert's long shot Game On Dude won this year's Big
'Cap.
Sidelined with a series of ailments since March,
Misremembered was still a heavy favorite in the field of seven older
horses. He was fourth in the early going, took the lead on the second
turn and pulled away to beat Kensei by three lengths in 1:33.4, a tenth
off the track record.
After the dominant win in a race with a
tenth of the purse, Baffert expressed regret that Misremembered, a
5-year-old son of Candy Ride partly owned by Baffert's wife Jill, hadn't
run alongside the long shot Game On Dude a day earlier.
"He is so much better than he was last year," Baffert said. "He's filled out. I was sort of upset at myself for not having him ready for the Big 'Cap."
