Mind Your Biscuits thrills in Dubai Golden Shaheen defense
With a thrilling late run, Mind Your Biscuits flew from last to first Saturday to defend his title in an American-dominated edition of the Group 2, $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen at Meydan.
This race a year ago gave trainer Chad Summers his first-ever victory. Both horse and human backed it up on the Dubai World Cup undercard
“He needed to be better than last year,” Summers said, “and he was.”
Why’s that? Well, in a blanket finish, Mind Your Biscuits caught fellow American sprinters Roy H (the recent Eclipse Award-winner) and X Y Jet (unbeaten since his return from injury).
X Y Jet hit the front in the turn after tracking Jordan Sport through the early fractions, and Roy H was moving up in the stretch. When it looked to be a battle between those two, Mind Your Biscuits, who had Joel Rosario in the irons, came from off the screen to sweep by both in the final strides of the six-furlong feature.
"He’s a horse that knows where the wire is and he just never gives up," Summers said.
Jockey Kent Desormeaux also revealed about favored Roy H, "He stumbled leaving the gate and after one length we were eight lengths back. He made up five lengths quite quickly but then got hit across the head by a neighbor's whip and it was all too much for him. He was the best horse in the race."
A son of Posse, Mind Your Biscuits is campaigned in a partnership with Head of Plains. He registered a seventh career victory Saturday.
