Mighty Caroline Retired

Mighty Caroline, the 2-year-old filly who provided trainer Melody Conlon with her first stakes victory in the $150,000, Grade III Sorrento on August 5, has been retired due to a suspensory ligament injury to the right front leg.

“It most likely happened in the race, but it didn’t show up until a few days afterward,” Conlon said Thursday morning. “We took X-rays hat didn’t show anything, but an ultrasound showed a slight tear.  Horses usually don’t come back to being 100 percent after a ligament injury, so we felt it best to retire her.”

Mighty Caroline, a Kentucky-bred daughter of Stormy Atlantic bred and owned by John Liviakis, is going back to Hill ‘N’ Dale Farm in Kentucky where she may be bred to Tapit next year.

“She’ll have a good life and we’re looking forward to her babies,” Conlon said.
