Derby Future Wager Sires: Meet the top progeny

Photo: Eclipse Sportswire

If you're going to bet in the Kentucky Derby Sire Future Wager, it pays to know the sires' leading sons who are currently in the classic mix. We checked with Churchill Downs, which provided this list of the top male earners of the 2018 crop from the sires in the first pool.

The morning-line favorites, both at 6-1, are Into Mischief and Tapit. Into Mischief, who was the sire of 2020 Kentucky Derby winner Authentic, has 13 sons on the list to easily lead all sires. Tapit has four 2-year-old males with at least $30,000 in earnings.

However, Tapit's sons do include Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Essential Quality, the early individual favorite in the first pool of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager at 10-1.

Among Into Mischief's sons are Highly Motivated, winner of the Nyquist Stakes on the Breeders' Cup undercard, who is listed at 15-1 in the KDFW pool; and Mutasaabeq, winner of the Bourbon (G2) on turf before a 10th-place finish in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf. He is not included in pool 1 of the KDFW.

Into Mischief returned $36.20 in last year's Sire Future Wager.

Here is the list of the individual sires in the Kentucky Derby Sire Future Wager. Only colts with winnings of $30,000 or more are listed. The pool also includes All Other Sires at morning-line odds of 4-1.
