Means Well Takes Monmouth's Friday Feature
After running last around
the first turn, Richard Santulli’s Means Well came wide around the far
turn before gaining the lead in late stretch to capture the $36,000
allowance feature at
Monmouth
Park on Friday afternoon by nearly a length.
Trainer by Alan Goldberg, Means Well went the mile and a sixteenth over “good” turf in 1:43 3/5
and returned $10.80, $6.20 and $4.20. Money for
Maria rallied to complete the $224 exacta and paid $17 and $11. It was
another neck back to Subpoena, who paid $3.80 to show. Post-time
favorite Minx checked in fourth in the field of nine fillies and mares.
“The
main thing was to get her to relax,” said winning jockey Julian
Pimentel. “She was just dragging me the whole way around there. I was
just
trying to take my time. I had her in a clear path. I waited as much
as I could and when I asked her she took off.”
A 3-year-old by Smart Strike from the Cat Thief mare Great Intentions, Means Well has now won her last two and sports a record of 2-1-1 from five career starts.
