McMahon and Acosta Top Timonium Standings

Trainer Hugh McMahon defended his training title and jockey J.D. Acosta led all riders during the ten day race meeting at the Maryland State Fair, which ended this afternoon.

McMahon saddled nine winners, including three on closing day. The 45-year old native of Doncaster, England also won a $4,000 trainer’s bonus for most in-the-money finishes and most starters over the stand.

Acosta galloped back to the winners’ circle sixteen times during the first nine days of action but had riding commitments in Philadelphia today. Defending champion Travis Dunkelberger added a winner to his total and finished second. Jonathan Joyce rode four winners on closing day to take third.

Live racing in Maryland moves to Laurel Park on Thursday September 19th.  Saturday September 21 features the Fall Festival of Racing including five stakes on the grass as well as the $350,000 DeFrancis Dash on the main track.
