Maximum Security will stand next year at Indiana farm
Eclipse Award winner Maximum Security will continue his breeding career at Breakway Farm and stand for $3,500, the Indiana family operation said in social-media posts this weekend.
“We are thrilled to announce that four-time Grade 1 winner Maximum Security will stand at Breakway Farm in 2026,” the farm announced on Facebook and X.
Now 9, Maximum Security spent the first five seasons of his breeding career at Ashford Stud, Coolmore’s breeding farm in Kentucky. Three-time stakes victor Instant Replay and France Group 3 winner Salvaje Two are among the progeny from his two crops who have reached racing age.
Maximum Security’s Grade 1 wins as a racehorse included the 2019 Florida Derby, Haskell and Cigar Mile Handicap and the 2020 Pacific Classic. The son of New Year’s Day was named the champion 3-year-old male of 2019.
Infamy also followed Maximum Security. He was disqualified after crossing the finish line first in Kentucky Derby 2019, where he was demoted for interference, and the 2020 Saudi Cup (G1), where he eventually was ruled to have been illegally medicated. Maximum Security was a pivotal figure in a 2020 federal horse-doping sting which landed his former trainer Jason Servis in prison.
Breakway Farm is in Dillsboro, Ind., about 30 miles west of Cincinnati. It is run by Tara Mathias and her mother Janice Jordan. Its stallion roster includes Harry’s Holiday, Boptrot, Necker Island, Charming Kitten, Forever d’Oro and Unbridled Express. Their sire fees range from $1,500 to $7,500.
