Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale, renowned sports gambler and Gallery Furniture owner, has made his huge Kentucky Derby bet for 2022.

He bet at least $1 million on Epicenter, whose odds immediately dropped from 5-1 to 9-2 and then to 4-1.

In 2021, McIngvale made headlines for placing a $2 million bet on Essential Quality in the Kentucky Derby. The bet was a hedge against a promotion that would have refunded people who purchased mattresses on Kentucky Derby day if the favorite won the race. McIngvale is running the promotion again this year at Gallery Furniture and once again, and he made his Derby as a hedge.

Horse Racing Nation has been tracking McIngvale's activity ahead of the big bet.

Earlier, he told reporters in a Saturday afternoon news conference that he still did not know which way he was leaning.

"I'm betting between $2 (million) and $4 million on the favorite, so I'm probably going to bet shortly after 6 o'clock. Hopefully that'll cement the favorite."

McIngvale suggested he was paying more attention to Blue Grass (G1) winner Zandon, but he added he would keep watching the tote board to see where things stood as late as 30 minutes before the 6:57 p.m. EDT post time.

McIngvale is at Churchill and has loaded a wagering card with $4 million. He continues to watch the tote board to determine which horse he will bet, and how much his wager will be.
