Suffolk Downs has suspended the Massachusetts Handicap again for 2009, citing current economic conditions.
The track’s signature event was scrapped three previous times this decade, in 2003, ’05, and ’06. Commentator won the 2008 edition, which carried a purse of $500,000. The race received Grade 3 status for 2009.
