Mary n’ Eileen, training out of Pat McBurney’s barn, looks to make it three-for-three in her career over the Monmouth Park main track in Sunday’s $75,000 Monmouth Beach Stakes going a mile and seventy yards.

The 4-year-old filly was last seen at Indiana Grand capturing the $150,000 Frances Slocum Stakes on Nov. 1, 2014, going a mile and 1/16 after stalking the pace and getting up just in time to win by a short neck.

“She’s training well since coming in this year,” said McBurney. “She broke her maiden here and won an optional claimer as well, so she has had success over this track in the past.”

Mary n’ Eileen, from Indy King (A.P Indy) out of Apleasantnight, has worked four times over the Monmouth main track in preparation for the Monmouth Beach Stakes with her latest going five furlongs in 1:01 on May 16. It was the seventh fastest of the day out of the 29 horses that went that distance.

It will be no easy task for Mary N’ Eileen to capture her second straight stakes as she faces the runner-up in last year’s Grade 2 Molly Pitcher Stakes, Montana Native, who goes for Christophe Clement’s barn. Montana Native has been pegged the 5/2 morning line favorite by oddsmaker Brad Thomas

“This horse likes to sit either on the lead or right off,” said McBurney. “She just has to make sure she gets a good break and finds a good position.”

Angel Serpa will get his first mount aboard the filly with that duo breaking from the three post in a field of eight.

The Monmouth Beach will be race 11 on the 12-race card with a scheduled post time of 5:43pm.
