Trainer Glatt reaches 1,000 career wins
Zestful captured Friday's third race at Del Mar in front-running fashion, giving trainer Mark Glatt his 1,000th career win.
Glatt, a native of Auburn, Wash., began training in 1995 at Yakima Meadows. He has come a long way in his 25 years as a trainer.
Glatt ran his first horse in Southern California in 2000 and has been a permanent fixture on the circuit for many years.
Zestful gave Glatt his 41st victory of 2020. This year also marked Glatt's first career Grade 1 win with Collusion Illusion in the Bing Crosby.
Glatt, who has compiled over $32 million in career earnings, had a breakout season in 2019 when notching over $3.3 million in earnings, putting him ahead of the likes of James Jerkens, Larry Jones and Dale Romans.
His most recognizable horse may be Sharp Samurai. The multiple Grade 2 winner was recently third in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile and has made over $1.1 million.
Zestful, a 5-year-old gelding by Ghostazpper, won for the third time since being claimed by Glatt for $40,000 last July. He was second in the Marathon (G2) on the 2019 Breeders' Cup undercard.
