Margolis Has Two for FG Oaks

Conditioner Steve Margolis entered Friday’s nine-race program at Fair Grounds in a three-way tie for second in the local trainer standings, and it looks like he’ll have two promising 3-year-old fillies with a chance to add a win to his totals in the upcoming Grade II Fair Grounds Oaks March 26.

“Right now, the reality is that (Gold Square’s) Little Miss Holly and (Thoroughbred Futures Racing II’s) Switching Gears are both doing really good and are coming up to this race (the Fair Grounds Oaks) in good order,” said Margolis on Friday. “They have two different owners, so barring something unexpected happening, it looks like I’m going to have two fillies in the (Fair Grounds) Oaks.

“Little Miss Holly had a very nice work yesterday (six furlongs in 1:11.60 on March 17),” Margolis said, “and she came out of her last race (third beaten 1 1/4-lengths in the $100,000 Silverbulletday Jan. 22) in good order.

“Switching Gears ran a very nice race last time (a Feb. 25 neck victory in allowance optional claiming company), and she had a nice work yesterday, too (1:14 flat),” said Margolis. “She’s been getting good very fast lately, so I see no reason not to run her as well.

“Our other filly, Bouquet Booth (Right Time Racing’s Silverbulletday winner who was fourth in the Grade III Rachel Alexandra), we’ve decided to give her a little time off so we’re waiting for something at Keeneland for her,” Margolis said.
