Mamdooha Returns in Correction
Shadwell
Stable's Mamdooha will return off a year-long layoff and attempt to
extend her win streak to five in the $100,000 Correction Stakes at six
furlongs for older fillies and mares on Saturday at Aqueduct Racetrack.
A daughter of Cigar Mile winner Daaher, Mamdooha has not raced since March 15, when she came from off the pace to take the Cicada Stakes by 1 ½ lengths over the Big A's inner track. Although the chestnut filly has yet to crack a Beyer Speed Figure of 78, she has compiled a record of 4-1-0 from five starts with earnings of $230,200, most of which she earned in her abridged 2014 campaign.
In addition to her Cicada victory, the Kiaran McLaughlin trainee has logged stakes wins in the Ruthless - also on Aqueduct's inner track - and the Gin Talking at Laurel Park.
"We're happy to have her back; she's a very classy filly," said McLaughlin. "She's been training in Florida and couldn't be doing any better. She's matured, filled out, and has been training great, so we're expecting to see an improved performance - not that she needs to improve much.
"There aren't many spots to run her; she's gone through all her conditions. We could have brought her back in a Grade 2 [the Inside Information on March 21 at Gulfstream Park], but we thought this was an easier spot and she obviously likes the inner track," he added.
Mamdooha, 5-1 on the morning line, will break from post 2 with Irad Ortiz, Jr. in the irons.
Listed as the 2-1 program favorite, Isabelle will go out for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott and William Schettine. The Successful Appeal filly has won three straight, including her last two on the inner track since she was transferred to Mott for her 4-year-old campaign. In her most recent start, the Schettine color-bearer took the Broadway Stakes for New York-bred fillies by 1 ½ lengths on February 14 at the Big A.
Junior Alvarado, who was aboard Isabelle for her past two starts, retains the mount, and the pair will depart from post 4.
Trainer David Jacobson will saddle multiple stakes winner Aireofdistinction, 5-2 on the morning line. The daughter of Songandaprayer has made one start since being privately purchased by Jacobson in late 2014, a second-place finish in the Interborough Stakes on January 17 at the Big A.
Fernando Jara will be aboard the dark bay or brown mare from post 5.
Rounding out the field are Expression, who finished third in the Grade 2 Barbara Fritchie in her most recent start for owner/trainer Charlton Baker; Vicki's Dancer, fourth in the Broadway in her latest outing; and Bridgehampton, a speedy filly for trainer Mike Hushion and Barry Schwartz.
