Maker caps big night with Sniper Kitten's Mystic Lake Derby win

Trainer Michael Maker brought five horses to Canterbury Park on Saturday evening to race in three of the Shakopee, Minn. racetrack’s richest races and left with two victories.
I’m Betty G won the $100,000 Lady Canterbury Stakes by 1 1/4 lengths, and Sniper Kitten closed to win the $200,000 Mystic Lake Derby by a length over 42-1 Nobrag Justfact. Both races were run at one mile on a firm turf course, with jockey Tyler Gaffalione aboard the winners.
“Good horses make it look easy,” Maker said.
The 4-year-old filly, I’m Betty G is owned by Three Diamonds Farm. She returned $7.60 to win. Sniper Kitten, a 3-year-old colt, paid $9.40 He is owned and was bred by Eclipse Award winners Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey.
The Maker-trained Swagger Jagger was the wagering favorite in the $100,000 Mystic Lake Mile but settled for fourth in a race that saw two horses separated by a half-length at the wire with My Bariley and jockey Hugo Sanchez prevailing for trainer Anthony Granitz and owner Captain Jack Racing Stable, LLC. My Bariley paid $35.00 to win.
The $50,000 Dark Star Cup, at 6 1/2 furlongs, was won by Creative Art who returned $26.00. He is owned by his trainer Shawn Davis along with Frank Bemis and was ridden by James Graham. Puntsville, for the second consecutive year, won the $50,000 Hoist Her Flag Stakes, racing gate to wire and covering the six furlongs in 1:09.88. As the wagering favorite she paid $5.20.
The five stakes comprised the Northern Stars Racing Festival, the richest night of racing during the 70-day meet at Canterbury Park.
