Make My Saturday Much the Best at Pimlico
J. Christopher Everett’s Make My Saturday captured the $42,000 allowance feature Sunday afternoon at Pimilco Race Course.
Ridden by Forest Boyce and trained by Tim Tullock, Make My Saturday completed the 5-furlong distance in 56.48 over the firm turf and won by 3 1/2 lengths. Post time favorite Sniper, from the Tony Dutrow barn, led until caught by the winner in mid-stretch.
“He was really right going into this race,” Tullock said. “I was really confident going in even with Tony’s horse in here. The way the race set up for us was perfect. There wasn’t a whole lot of speed in the race. He has tactical speed and outside of Tony’s horse there wasn’t any speed in the race.”
The winner, a son of Any Given Saturday, paid $12.60. This was his second lifetime win. He broke his maiden at Pimlico a year and a day ago.
MAGEE EXTENDS LEAD IN TRAINER STANDINGS
Kieron Magee extended his lead in the trainer standings when Kens Cape won for the fourth consecutive time in today’s eighth race. With six live racing days remaining in the spring meeting, Magee has 14 victories, three more than Graham Motion, with Jamie Ness four back.
“I have to hold on,” Magee said. “If it happens, it happens but I had to run a couple horses out of town because of all the stakes races here last weekend. I have a couple in tomorrow that should run well but there are some top barns banging at the door.”
Magee shared the Laurel Park winter meet title with Hugh McMahon, Juan Vazquez and Claudio Gonzalez.
