Mahoning Valley reschedules Monday, Tuesday cards due to cold
Mahoning Valley has rescheduled its Monday and Tuesday cards because of cold weather expected in the area.
The rescheduled cards were announced by the track in a Friday afternoon news release. Both cards have been moved in their entirety, with Monday's card being run next Friday and Tuesday's rescheduled for next Saturday.
The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for an area covering Youngstown, Ohio, where Mahoning Valley is located. The advisory warned of a mass of arctic air Monday and Tuesday with wind chills below -15 degrees. National Weather Service forecasters predicted a high near 7 degrees on Monday, an overnight low of -6, then a high near 6 on Tuesday. After a low around -12 for Tuesday night, forecasters predicted a high of 11 degrees on Wednesday.
Mahoning Valley expects to resume racing Wednesday with first post scheduled for 12:15 p.m. EST. Wednesday's card features nine races, with the richest of them being the seventh, a six-furlong allowance for Ohio-bred fillies and mares who have never won four races lifetime. The 7-5 morning-line favorite is Banana Pudding, a Julie Pappada trainee who has won her last two starts, including a 4 3/4-length romp against Ohio-bred non-winners of three at Mahoning Valley on Jan. 7.
