More tracks cancel Wednesday cards because of winter weather
Live racing at Penn National, Mahoning Valley, Charles Town, Parx and Louisiana Downs was canceled for Wednesday as extreme weather continues. Louisiana Downs also canceled its Thursday card.
The cancellations come after Mahoning Valley, Parx and Louisiana Downs also canceled racing Tuesday.
Turfwfay Park cancelled racing for Friday and Saturday because of extreme cold in the forecast.
The National Weather Service forecast for Youngstown, Ohio, home of Mahoning Valley, called for a mostly sunny day Wednesday with a high of 19 degrees and wind-chill values as low as minus-11.
In Charles Town, W. Va., a sunny day with a high of 27 is forecasted, with wind-chill values between 5 below and 5 above zero. A high of 24 degrees is expected in Bensalem, Pa., home to Parx, and in Bossier City, La., the temperature is expected to reach 41 degrees, but wind-chill values are forecasted at as low as 9 degrees. Grantville, Pa., home to Penn National, was expected to have a high temperature of 23 degrees and wind chills as low as 9 degrees.
Penn National, Mahoning Valley and Charles Town said they expect racing to resume on Thursday. At Parx, racing is scheduled to resume Monday.
