Louisiana Downs meet kicks off May 6

Lost in all of the talk about new TVs, new players room, racing specials and family movie nights is the actual horse racing at Louisiana Downs.

Yes, the Downs has plenty of new things to discuss — as heard at the track's news conference on Wednesday — but horse racing is still the main event when the 2011 thoroughbred meet opens on Friday.


"We've got 1,400 horses in the barn area right now," Downs director racing Trent McIntosh said. "We'll have between nine- and 10-horse fields on both of those (Friday and Saturday) cards."
