Louisiana Downs: Super Derby set for Sept 8
{{monthName}} {{day}}, {{year}} {{hour12}}:{{minuteTwoDigit}}{{dayPeriod}}
The Super Derby, Louisiana Downs' marquee event, will take place Sept. 8 this year, the earliest date in the race's 32 years. Just like last season, the 33rd edition of the race takes place on the second Saturday in September and will run as a Grade II, $500,000 event over 1 1/8 miles.
Last year, trainer Bob Baffert shipped in Prayer For Relief and captured the victory. The Super Derby highlights a 28-stakes, 84-day meet at Louisiana Downs. Opening Day is May 4, the day before the Kentucky Derby.
The first stakes events at LaDowns are slated for June 2, when the John Franks Memorial and the Honeymoon Stakes — a pair of $50,000 events — will take to the turf.
