Brittlyn Stable’s Forevamo has exited his solid second-place finish in Saturday’s Grade II $400,000 Veterans Ford Risen Star Stakes in good order, according to trainer Al Stall and owner Evelyn Benoit. In the Risen Star, the bay colt sat comfortably mid-pack and wheeled out at the top of the stretch to take aim on eventual winner Gun Runner, ultimately falling a dwindling half-length short at the wire under Colby Hernandez.
“He’s perfectly fine,” Stall reported. “He’s been to the track twice since the race and looks good.”
Stall confirmed that all systems are a go for the Grade II TwinSpires.com $1,000,000 Louisiana Derby on Mar. 26 at the New Orleans oval for the half-brother to 2011’s champion female sprinter Musical Romance.
Forevamo’s effort in the Risen Star was the second consecutive time that his Equibase Speed Figures have jumped more than 10 points from his previous effort. He earned an 80 when sixth of 10 in the Grade III $1,000,000 Delta Jackpot on Nov. 21, followed by a 93 in a one-mile allowance prep on Jan. 18 and then impressed with a 105 in the Risen Star, defying his 40-1 odds.
The stakes-winning Florida-bred, whose only victory is a tally in the Listed $200,000 Jean Lafitte at Delta Downs on Oct. 24, is expected to return to the work tab next week to continue preparing for what will be his seventh career start.
