Longshot plays for Belmont's Jockey Club Gold Cup races

Belmont Park's "Super Saturday" of races includes a trio of "Win and You're In" events toward the Breeders' Cup headlined by the Grade 1, $750,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup. Consider these four longshots when making your bets on the all-stakes sequence.

Race 7 (G1 Vosburgh, 6f)

#6 Imperial Hint (1-5) is strictly the one to beat at minuscule odds. If you are looking for an alternative to the chalk, #4 Mr. Crow (5-1) might be the right one. The latter had a bad trip as the favorite in the Tale of the Cat last time. He reconnects with winning rider Luis Saez, and he needs an alert beginning and a forwardly placed trip. If those things happen, he can make some noise in this spot.

Race 8 (G1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic, 12T)

#1 Robert Bruce (2-1) has a nose for the wire and is the deserving favorite. #2 Hi Happy (6-1) needs more aggressive handling, and his winning rider Luis Saez knows where to place him in the early going. He won the G1 Man o’War at Belmont earlier this year, and was a close-up third in the G1 Manhattan after that. Look out if he shakes loose early.

Race 9 (G3 Pilgrim, 8.5f inner turf)

#5 Opry (9-5) looked good in his turf route maiden win last time, and he could easily click right back as the favorite. #10 Pipes (20-1) is an interesting longshot on the surface switch for Gary Contessa. The New York-bred improved his numbers in all three starts, proved he could handle turf at Saratoga Aug. 24, and cruised to an easy maiden win in the local slop Sept. 9.

Race 10 (G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup, 10f)

#6 Diversify (4-5) is a razor sharp front runner with an affinity for Belmont Park, and he probably wins this at low odds. Long-winded one-eyed wonder #4 Patch (20-1) might be able spice up the exotics under Luis Saez. Todd Pletcher’s likable colt should love today’s added furlong, and he started 2018 with a win at Belmont Park.
