Trainer Ken McPeek said Magdalena Racing’s Here Comes Frazier
sustained a compound fracture to his right hock when he hit the rail
while leading the field in Sunday’s Bourbon Stakes (G3) on the grass.
“He has not had surgery yet,” McPeek said Monday morning of Here
Comes Frazier, who was taken to nearby Rood & Riddle Equine
Hospital. “They are going to do more X-rays to see if there is anything
else up higher.”
Here Comes Frazier was comfortably in front of his 11 rivals when
he swerved into the rail just before the eighth pole and sent jockey
Julien Leparoux into the infield. Leparoux was not seriously hurt.
“He is one of the most talented horses I’ve ever had,” McPeek said
about Here Comes Frazier. “It is probably doubtful that he will ever
race again, and he faces a long recovery time of six months to a year.”
A 2-year-old son of Badge of Silver, Here Comes Frazier had won his
initial start by seven lengths on the main track at Arlington Park in
September.
