Lone Star Park will begin its 2024 Thoroughbred season April 18 and conclude July 14 with 41 race days featuring 21 stakes worth a total of $2.8 million.

The $75,000 Bluebonnet Stakes for Texas-bred fillies and mares will highlight the opening-night card April 18.

The richest day of the meet, Lone Star Million day, will take place on Memorial Day, May 27, with more than $1.2 million in purses. Six stakes have been scheduled, including the Grade 3, $400,000 Steve Sexton Mile for 3-year-olds and up and the 1 1/16-mile, $300,000 Texas Derby.

Two of the six stakes on Million day will be for fillies and mares, including the $200,000 Ouija Board Distaff at one mile on the turf and the six-furlong $100,000 Memorial Day Sprint.

The $100,000 Chamberlain Bridge Stakes at five furlongs on the turf and the $100,000 Speightstown Sprint at six furlongs will also be contested as part of the Memorial Day card.

Lone Star Park will host its summer turf festival June 29. The $250,000 Texas Turf Classic will anchor the card at 1 1/8 miles. Three other $125,000 turf stakes will be run as well, including the 1 1/16-mile Wasted Tears, the Grand Prairie Turf Sprint and, for fillies and mares, the five-furlongs Chicken Fried Stakes on the lawn.

Texas-breds will show their skills in restricted stakes on Lone Star showcase day in the $75,000 Danny Shifflet Scholarship Stakes, the $75,000 Wayne Hanks Memorial Stakes and the $75,000 Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame Stakes, all June 1. Also, both divisions of the $75,000 Texas Stallion Stakes are scheduled for that day.

The season’s stakes action wraps up with Stars of Texas day July 13. Two-year-olds get a chance at a stakes win as both divisions of the $150,000 Texas Thoroughbred Association Futurity will be run at the 5 1/2-furlong distance. The $75,000 Assault Stakes at one mile on turf, the six furlong $75,000 Valor Farm Stakes and the $75,000 Fiesta Mile, all restricted to Texas-breds, will be run as well.

Opening night April 18 falls on Thursday. After that there will be racing Friday, Saturday and Sunday most weeks. The exceptions are Saturday-Monday, May 26-28, for Memorial Day weekend and Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, July 3, 4, 6 and 7, around Independence Day.
