Loggins will stand stud at Hill 'n' Dale in 2024
Loggins, who finished second by a neck to Forte in the Grade 1 Breeders' Futurity in 2022, will join the stallion roster at Hill 'n' Dale Farm for 2024. The farm also stands his sire, Ghostzapper.
Loggins' retirement had been announced May 31, caused by what trainer Brad Cox described as a "setback he could not come back from."
Loggins sold for $460,000 as a yearling at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga select yearling sale in 2021. He was trained by Brad Cox, and campaigned by a large ownership group that included Spendthrift Farm, Steve Landers Racing, Martin S. Schwartz, Michael Dubb, Ten Strike Racing, Jim Bakke, Titletown Racing Stables, Kueber Racing, Big Easy Racing and Winners Win.
"Brad Cox and I were intent on purchasing the best colt at Saratoga regardless of price," said Liz Crow, a bloodstock agent involved in the purchase, in a news release from Hill 'n' Dale. "Loggins, hands down, was the most impressive physical at the entire sale. He was an absolute 'must-have' colt. He ended up selling as the highest-priced colt of the year for his sire."
Bet down to odds-on in a field of 11 for his Sept. 17 debut in a 6 1/2-furlong dirt sprint at Churchill Downs, Loggins ran to the money. He tracked the pace and opened up to win by 8 1/2 lengths. The eighth-place finisher in that race, Raise Cain, went on to graduate next out, win the Withers (G3) and make the Kentucky Derby field.
In Loggins' second and final start, he went off the 5-2 favorite in the Breeders' Futurity. He disputed the early pace and briefly cleared. But he narrowly lost a protracted stretch battle to eventual juvenile champion Forte.
Hill 'n' Dale has not announced a stud fee for Loggins.
