Lifetime rights to breed one mare each year to Nyquist will be auctioned the evening of Oct. 29 during the Keeneland championship sale at Del Mar, two days before the start of the Breeders’ Cup.

Keeneland announced Saturday that Hill ’n’ Dale Sales Agency will consign the rights. The winning bidder will be allowed to send one broodmare annually to Nyquist for the rest of the stallion’s breeding career. Nyquist stands at Darley in Lexington, Ky.

“The championship sale was designed to showcase offerings that are truly one of a kind,” Keeneland vice president Tony Lacy said. “To feature a breeding right to Nyquist underscores the sale’s position as a stage for rare collectors’ items. For buyers this is an extraordinary opportunity to secure access to one of the best stallions in the sport.”

Nyquist, a champion at 2 and winner of Kentucky Derby 2016, is the sire of 33 stakes winners, including Eclipse Award winners Immersive and Vequist as well as Canada champion Gretzky the Great. This year he is represented by Grade 1 winners Cavalieri, Velocity and Argos along with the likes of Tenma, Randomized, Crimson Advocate and Gosger. Nyquist also is the sire of Breeders’ Cup hopefuls Johannes in the Mile, Cavalieri in the Distaff, Nysos in the Dirt Mile and Argos in the Juvenile Turf.

At the recent Keeneland September yearling sale, Nyquist was represented by 37 yearlings who sold for a combined $14,645,000.
