Laurel to Host Champions Handicapping Tournament Aug. 22

The Maryland Jockey Club's Champions Handicapping Tournament will be held Saturday, Aug. 22at Laurel Park with winners receiving entry into the Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge, The Big One and the 2016 Coast Casinos Horseplayer World Series in Las Vegas.

The Champions Handicapping Tournament, a single-day competition, will be held in Laurel's Carriage Room. The competition is limited to the first 300 entries and players must be 21 years of age. There is a $100 non-refundable entry fee per entry with a maximum of two entries.

Entrants will be required to stake a $200 account bankroll to make win, place and show wagers on the designated tracks - Laurel, Gulfstream Park, Monmouth Park, Saratoga and Woodbine.

Wagering will begin at 12:20 p.m. and end at approximately 6:40 p.m.

The entrant with the greatest pari-mutuel winnings at the end of the day will win entry to the 2015 Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge Oct. 30-31. The entrant with the second greatest pari-mutuel earnings at the end of the day will earn entry to The Big One Sept. 26-27. The third-place finisher will earn entry to the 2016 Coast Casinos Horseplayer World Series in Las Vegas March 30 through April 2.

There will also be guaranteed prize money for those finishing second through 10th.
