Laurel Park cancels Saturday racing to evaluate track surface
Saturday's racing card at Laurel Park has been canceled. According to a news release from the Maryland Jockey Club, the races were called off "out of an abundance of caution to do a full evaluation of the racing surfaces."
The entire Saturday card at Laurel will be moved to Friday, and the Laurel racing office confirmed to Horse Racing Nation that there will be no re-draw of the races.
Saturday's nine-race card at Laurel featured a non-conditioned allowance at 1 1/16 miles on dirt. The 5-2 morning-line favorite in that race was Jamie Ness trainee Ournationonparade, a 6-year-old gelding whose eight wins include the 2022 Maryland Million Classic in October.
Laurel Park did not plan to race on Sunday due to the Easter holiday. It is expected to resume with Thursday's eight-race program. Thursday's Laurel Park card includes the track's first grass race of the year.
Saturday's cancellation does not affect full-card simulcast wagering, which will remain open Saturday.
