Lady of Shamrock Headlines Del Mar Oaks
Hronis Racing’s Lady of Shamrock, a contender for national honors in the three-year-old filly turf division after her recent impressive triumph in the Grade I American Oaks, heads a field of ten outstanding fillies Saturday in the 57th running of the Grade I $300,000 Del Mar Oaks.
Leading the opposition to Lady of Shamrock in the mile and one-eighth seasonal championship over the infield Jimmy Durante Turf Course will be Kaleem Shah’s classy Eden’s Moon, who captured the San Clemente Handicap in her grass debut July 22.
Lady of Shamrock, a daughter of Scat Daddy trained by John Sadler, will have Mike Smith in the saddle and is expected to go the post a slight favorite over Eden’s Moon, a speedy Malibu Moon filly to be piloted by Rafael Bejarano for conditioner Bob Baffert.
My Gigi and Best Present Ever were second and third, respectively, behind Lady of Shamrock in the American Oaks, while Open Water and Indigo were second and third to Eden’s Moon in the San Clemente Handicap.
All entrants are scheduled to carry 122 pounds.
