Lady Sebelia Romps to Red Cross Victory

Mrs. Frank P. Wright’s Lady Sabelia closed with a rush down the center of the track to run past pacesetter Munnings Sister and post a 2 ½ length win in the $70,000 Red Cross Stakes at Monmouth Park on Sunday.

With Horacio Karamanos in the irons, Lady Sabelia went the six furlongs over a fast main track in 1:10 3/5 and returned $4.80, $3.40 and $2.60 as the favorite in the field of seven fillies and mares.  Munnings Sister completed the $23.60 exacta and paid $4 and $2.60.  It was a neck back to Geeky Gorgeous, who paid $2.60 to show.

“I just love this filly,” said winning trainer Robin Graham.  “She’s just coming along beautifully.  She was a slow developer and the owners let me take my time with her and it’s worked out great.  She ran great today.”

A 4-year-old daughter of Majestic Warrior from the Citidancer mare Terra Maria, Lady Sabelia has won four of her nine outings, good for earnings of $183,200.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Friday, June 27 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:50 p.m.  Friday’s card will feature a carryover of $24,353 in the Pick 5 (Races 6 through 10).
