La Crête has ‘a good night’ after her condylar surgery

La Crête, the previously undefeated filly who was pulled up with a condylar fracture Saturday in the Grade 2 Rachel Alexandra Stakes, was said to be doing well after her operation Sunday.

“Surgery went well,” Scott Blasi, the top assistant to trainer Steve Asmussen, said in a text message Monday. “She had a good night. One day at a time.”

The Medaglia d’Oro filly was the leader midway through the Rachel Alexandra when jockey Joel Rosario pulled the reins and brought her to a stop. An equine ambulance took her back to the Fair Grounds barns, where Dr. Larry Bramlage examined her.

“He did a great job,” Blasi said about Rosario. “Best he could.”

La Crête, a Stonestreet Stables homebred, easily won her debut Nov. 20 going 1 1/16 miles at Churchill Downs, geared down by Rosario to a 2 1/4-length victory. She made a successful 3-year-old debut last month with a one-length score in the Silverbulletday Stakes at Fair Grounds, losing her early lead only to come back and win by a length.
